RE: UPDATE Oil at $60 a barrel?

Oil bubble about to burst? According to this article oil could be as low as $70 - $80 a barrel by the end of the year. Sure am glad I kept the truck. But you didn't mention that becasue Exxon/Mobil has been at such a high profit margin for so long they won't go back to those "leaner" days and we will still be paying more at the pump than we should.

RE: Uneven EQualizer hitch question

Unloaded, I doubt the slight difference between the two bars is of any concern. Loaded, there should be no issue. If you suspect they are still not pretty even with one another then I would start over with the install instructions.

RE: 08 F-150 SuperCrew - 4.6 or 5.4?

When I was shopping for my F-150 I considered the smaller engine... for a couple of seconds. Fuel economy was about 1 mpg different than the 5.4L if I remember right. Outside of fuel economy I could think of no other reason to go with the smaller engine. Despite what oithers have said about the 5.4L, it has been my experience that it is a solid, reliable small block V-8. For a 1/2 ton, 4 wheel drive pickup I am very happy with the truck. I have added performance mods to mine that make it even better. No problems, no issue whatsoever. I use my truck as a daily driver and I use it to tow. I tow quite often... a boat that weighs 3,000 and a TT that weighs 6,000 (no, not at the same time). My truck is a workhorse and has handled everything that I have thrown at it to date.

RE: Check Propane Level?

I've gotta say that when we first got our TT this was one of those issues that we were concerned about. The last thing we wanted to do was run out of propane in the middle of cooking or in the middle of a cold night. First, let me explain what we have... 2 - 30 lb. tanks. These tanks hold 6+ gallons of LP each. When we bought our TT the dealer filled both tanks. Now, two years later, I made it to the point where the first propane tank finally ran out... after 1.5 years and a few dozen camping trips. Needless to say, the last thing I worry about these days is the propane. Now, if you run your furnace every night, you will want to be a little bit more concerned about propane use, what is left in the tank, etc. In my experience, furnace use is the fastest way to go through propane. But if you are like 90% of us and furnace use happens a few nights of the year, don't sweat it.

RE: Gas Mileage with Jayco Soprt 199

I have a 2006 F-150 with a Jayco Jayfeather weighing 6,000 fully loaded. The truck has the 5.4L and 3.73 rear end. Just completed a 2,300 mile trip with overall mileage at 11... ranged from a low of 9.2 to a high of 14 (gravity helped a lot that day). ANY kind of wind hitting us dropped the mileage down. But we had a good trip and I was happy with the average mileage.

There is one location where I stood that allowed me to put a total of 4 states on the map... Know where that is? (jk about putting them on the map... only camped in 3 of 'em)

RE: UPDATE Oil at $60 a barrel?

Bottom line, we are the puppets for the big oil masters... they jerk the string and we dance. Addictions are a crazy thing, yes? Don't you love having your family's budget controlled by board rooms and CEO's of the largest oil companies as they GROW their record profits every quarter? This is the biggest crime of the 21st century and there is pretty much nothing that anyone is going to do about it. Now, more than ever, we need to do what we can to get off oil.

RE: UPDATE Oil at $60 a barrel?

It doesn't seem to matter how low a barrel of oil goes down in price, the price at the pumps hasn't budged much. It's still pretty close to what it was when oil was $ 147 a barrel. Must be a local thing. Where I am diesel got up to 4.79 a gallon and today I bought it for 3.89. I am glad for you... but that ain't happenin' here. Can't even buy 87 unleaded for that here. Average for gas is 3.99 and Diesel is 4.59

RE: UPDATE Oil at $60 a barrel?

Everyone says "drill, drill, drill"!! What will that do for future generations? Sure drilling is a part of the energy independence solution, but what we need is a clean RENEWEABLE form of energy. I for one am kind of leary of gas prices coming down. If they do, we the voters, won't be screaming at congress to make us energy independant and it won't be profiable for private industry to come up with solutions. Now, flame on!! Now here is a wise person. Why not put our resources into weening us off an energy source that, despite how much we try and drill for it, other countries will have more of. And these other countries don't like us much... even Canada is getting a little cheeky with us. Why not turn that Americam inginuity into development of a different energy source, one that does not require us to import from others? Now, wouldn't THAT be something. As the world runs out of fossil fuels we will have made the switch already and we won't be looking for the last drop of oil like they will. Pipe dream?

RE: Use of Flexfuel

Pretty sure MTBE has been banned as a fuel additive... for good reason. Its an environmental hazard of major proportions.

RE: Use of Flexfuel

Anyone using E85 fuel with their tow vehicle?? Notice any difference with mileage and performance when towing or not towing?? My 2007 F150 is rated for the E85 but have not used any of it yet. It is about a dollar cheaper but I hear the mileage is not as good....so where would the savings be?? I think I would be more concerned with the performance during tow operations. Like to hear opinions and experience with E85. Yes, there is a difference. With E85, either towing or not, your fuel economy will decrease. How much will depend on your rig, how you drive, your driving conditions, etc. Try it out and see what your mpg's are with and without E85 and then see if the price difference makes it more or less expensive to operate your vehicle with E85. Listening to the multitude of opinion on here will only confuse the issue. Just remember, ethanol has a higher octane than gasoline but when it fires in your engine it will not produce as much energy. A cunundrum, I know. But the higher octane must be why racing engines use it. For most of us, ethanol is an oxegenate used in our fuel so that it will burn more cleanly and produce less harmhul emmissions. MTBE was the compound that was once used as the oxygenate in our fuel but it was discovered that this solvent was responsible for polluting groundwater when there was fuel leaks. Nasty stuff. Ethanol has a bad reputation becasue most people buy in to the myths about corn production and higher cost for food, etc. Corn is not the only way that methanol is prodcued. It is the most rapid way this country has been able to supply the demand... for the time being. But other techniques are catching up. Don't count out ethanol as one of the alternative fuels of the future... despite some people's views on its (short term) limitations. Imagine a time when our waste products will produce our fuels (like ethanol).

RE: What are these Chips I hear guys talking about??

I will run against the grain on this thread. I have a gasser... F-150 with the 5.4L. I have been adding modifications to my vehicle since I bought it... including a "chip" or programmer. Must I really have these? No. Do they improve performance? Yes. In my case it was greatly enhanced. Do they help with towing? Yes. Do they increase fuel efficiency? Yes, in my case it did but most people would not consider the increase significant (increase 1.0 mpg daily driving, increase 0.5 mpg towing). Will the increased fuel economy offset the cost of the mods? No... not immediately. Over time I expect the cost of the mods will be greatly mitigated by the increase in fuel efficiency.

RE: UPDATE Oil at $60 a barrel?

Oil bubble about to burst? According to this article oil could be as low as $70 - $80 a barrel by the end of the year. Sure am glad I kept the truck. But will we see it at the pump? Makes ya wonder, eh? Ever notice how any hiccup in the world market price in an upward direction makes the $ sign at the pump go up IMMEDIATELY... But when that crude oil price is slowly dropping like it has the last 2 weeks the price at the pump hardly moves. If you don't think we are getting jerked around by big oil, what more proof do yo need? Thats a rehtorical question... not directed at anyone.

RE: WD hitch reduce TT tongue weight contribution to GVWR?

Seems to me that you are in the market for a TT that has a GVWR of 6000. Certainly no more than 7,000. This is the same limit that many of us are working with in the 1/2 ton class of TV. The good news is that there are MANY makes and models of TT to choose from... any many of those have bunks. Good hunting.

RE: tow/haul

For us Ford folks we have something called overdrive. And its normally "off" unless you purposley turn it on. So, when you run at highway speeds you are in 4th gear and the engine runs at 1500 or 1600 rpm... maybe 1750 on the freeway. If you engage O/D you will drop down a gear and the rpm will jump to 2100 or 2200. I find that I can tow our TT on flat stretches just fine (county road or freeway makes no diff) while in normal drive mode. Any hills whatsoever and I want to engage O/D just to keep the trans from wanting to move in and out of that lower gear.

RE: Truck Suggestions please

Any of the 1/2 tons will do nicely (get the tow package). And yes, I am sure you could get a smokin' deal right now. I only wish I was buying now instead of three years ago.
